Brambleclaw x Stormfur
BrambleStorm / StormBramble
Currently sitting at perhaps unnoticed, because I have never seen any support for this pairing. As slash, it is noncanon, yet interestingly enough, some possible "subtexts" that mirror DarkxTiger in their obtrusiveness were found while scourging Moonrise.
Stormfur and Brambleclaw have a friendly relationship, and both have grown up with prejudice from their Clan, strived to prove themselves, and become capable and strong warriors in the process. Each values the other for their respective traits, although in the books admiration from Stormfur towards Brambleclaw is mentioned more.
"SUBTEXT" AND "EVIDENCE"
Stormfur murmured agreement, feeling a warm glow that spread from his ears to his tail-tip at the ThunderClan cat's praise. Brambleclaw was neither his leader nor his mentor, but Stormfur couldn't help feeling strong admiration for the young warrior's courage and the way he had taken the lead on the difficult journey.
This quote is particularly revealing, and states quite obviously that Stormfur is slightly puzzled by how much Brambleclaw means to him - he's neither his leader nor his mentor (or family) yet he feels strong admiration and attraction to Brambleclaw. (He felt a bout of warm fuzzies when a younger warrior complimented him? Oh my.)
Stormfur managed to get his paws and stand beside him, thankful to have the strong ThunderClan warrior with him as they faced danger.
Moonrise, page 93
Not much, but showing again how much Stormfur notices and admires Brambleclaw's strength and appreciates being beside him.
Stormfur warmed a little at the ThunderClan warrior's trust in him. He wouldn't have been suprised if he had lost all of Brambleclaw's respect, after the way he had settled in among the Tribe cats. He knew now how much Brambleclaw's friendship meant to him.
Moonrise, page 213
Speaks for itself pretty much, Stormfur's getting warm fuzzies again, and is grateful to the way Brambleclaw still trusts and respects him after the ordeal with the tribe. He realizes how much Brambleclaw's friendship means to him.
Brambleclaw and Stormfur were leading them along the side of a steep valley. It was as different from the forest as Leafpaw could imagine.
Dawn, page 275
Nothing at all, but just shows that although it wasn't seen so much in Moonrise, Brambleclaw and Stormfur do hang out together.
There was a long pause. "You'll miss him, won't you?"
"Of course I will!" Squirrelpaw replied, surprised. She turned to look up at Brambleclaw and saw a flicker of something in his amber eyes. Was he feeling jealous?
Dawn, page 323
Of course, their apparent infatuation with Squirrelpaw is the canon object between Stormfur and Brambleclaw, but taken out of context, there are still some text embedded within quotes like these that could indicate something between them. It appears here that Brambleclaw was aware that Squirrelpaw had a strong friendship with Stormfur - yet she never showed this at all in the books. On the contrary, it was only Stormfur who had feelings for her, not the other way around. If Brambleclaw is aware of the feelings Stormfur had for Squirrelflight, would he be feeling jealous of her, not Stormfur?
But it wasn't the sight of devastation that pricked Brambleclaw's pelt and kept his paws frozen to the ground. Two cats he had thought he'd never see again were picking their way carefully among the scattered thorns of the entrance barrier. [Stormfur and Brook] were uninjured, their pelts sleek and eyes alight with alarm.
Sunset, page 6
This quote was taken from the very beginning of Sunset, when we return to Brambleclaw's point of view. It's interesting that he should place the appearance of Stormfur above his entire camp and Clan being devastated - being that it's that said event, not the destruction around him that keeps his paws frozen to the ground in shock.
The powerful gray tomcat paced forward until he could touch noses with Brambleclaw. "It's good to see you again," he meowed. "I . . . I wanted to see if you'd found a place to live. But what happened here?
Sunset, page 7
Stormfur enters a devastated ThunderClan camp and the first thing he does is touch noses with Brambleclaw and explain that he came all the way over the mountains to make sure that he was okay? Oh yes, I'm sure Stormfur is very glad to see his old friend again.
Brambleclaw sent a silent prayer of thanks to StarClan that they had chosen this moment to send his old friend back to the Clans. He and Stormfur had been through a lot together on the first journey to the sun-drown-place, and he could think of few cats he'd rather have beside him now.
Sunset, page 8
Speaking for himself again, this is one of the few quotes were Brambleclaw returns Stormfur's feelings of deep friendship in writing. Even though he only met him and travelled with him on the journey to sun-drown, Stormfur has become one of Brambleclaw's closest acquaintances, and he would rather face the trouble he has to deal with now with Stormfur then any other of his Clanmates?
"That's tough." There was a note of sympathy in Stormfur's voice that made Brambleclaw wince. He didn't want any cat's pity.
Sunset, page 8
Brambleclaw says he doesn't want any cats pity, but it would make sense that he especially does not want Stormfur's pity, seeing how he admires his own strength. It is also telling that Stormfur feels sympathy for Brambleclaw's situation - how well suited to eachother they are. Though Stormfur has no ambition to lead himself, he recognizes Brambleclaw's flair for it, and supports him becoming deputy all along, when Brambleclaw future mate Squirrelflight does not.
