PHYSICAL

Longtail is a pale dusty-coloured tom with black stripes and a long tail. His left ear is split into a deep 'v' shape, and his eyes are scarred and blind.

PERSONALITY

Longtail is first seen within the series as an arrogant and outspoken tom, his hot-headed remarks in attempt to humiliate Rusty earn him a battle scar he'll not soon forget when his cunning battle tactics fail him in Into The Wild. Longtail is especially resentful to the ginger cat as time goes by, but he proves himself a loyal Clan warrior. When he loses his sight in Firestar's Quest he becomes a great amount more timid and dependent on other cats.

HISTORY

INTO THE WILD Listed as ThunderClan warrior: Longtail

Longtail is the loudest voice to challenge Bluestar's decision to invite Rusty into the Clan [ITW1]. Rusty doesn't back down from the challenge, and the two fight. Rusty nearly loses when Longtail attempts to suffocate him by using his collar as a choker, but the collar snaps and Longtail loses the fight [ITW2]. He slinks away in shame, his good looks ruined by a nick in his ear from Rusty. Longtail is later appointed Bluestar's personal guard by Tigerclaw [ITW18] and also plots to 'get rid of' Ravenpaw [ITW18].

GENERAL
Longtail is the first cat to openly challenge Rusty's right to an apprenticeship in ThunderClan. They fight in the third chapter, and even after Bluestar intervenes, their hostilities are not spent. It takes them a very long time to view eachother as equals, and even then, neither are fully companionable with eachother. In Firestar's Quest Longtail's eyes are scratched by a rabbit on a hunting patrol, and he is blinded. Though he insists that he will be a burden to the Clan, Firestar admirably shoots down such ideas, and he joins the elders den.
