Jaypaw is a scrawny gray tabby tom with blue eyes.

PERSONALITY

Jaypaw is a unique personality within the warriors series. He is introverted and does not tend to enjoy or feel the need to interact with many cats. He often gives off the impression that he is bitter and angry at the world, blaming everyone for trying to help him for thinking he can't be independent because of his blindness. Jaypaw wants to be just as good as any other cat, but until he matures, his powers give him a mean streak of ambition and curiosity that could prove dangerous in later moons.

HISTORY

THE SIGHT listed as ThunderClan kit: Son of Squirrelflight

In this book we meet Jaykit, grandson of Firestar, the blind kit who longs to be a warrior like his siblings more then anything. When a young fox is discovered on ThunderClan territory, Jaykit and his siblings try to look for it. They find it - and Jaykit ends up running back to camp and falling off the cliff, nearly dying. Instead, he is visited by Spottedleaf, who warns him that it is not his time to die. Jaykit survives, and soon is apprenticed to Brightheart, much to his disappointment. While his brother battle trains, Jaypaw cleans the elder's den with his half-blind mentor and the blind Longtail.

Jaypaw wants to be a fighting warrior more then anything - he doesn't understand how Hollypaw wants to be a medicine cat. This is why Jaypaw is so devastated when he finds out that it's his destiny to become a medicine cat - he has been gifted with "The Sight" and can walk in the dreams of the living. He is tempted by Tigerclaw, his grandfather, and his uncle Hawkfrost when they promise him training as a warrior, but he is saved again by Spottedleaf. As Hollypaw decides she'd make a better warrior, Jaypaw must make the decision to become Leafpool's apprentice. Later on in the book Jaypaw sees a sign that allows him to save the life of Breezepaw and Lionpaw when a badger set collapses on top of them.

DARK RIVER listed as ThunderClan apprentice: Jaypaw

Jaypaw does not play an especially large part in Dark River. He walks in the dreams of Cinderpaw and discovers that she is the reincarnation of Cinderpelt - he speaks to the former medicine cat in the old camp in Cinderpaw's mind. As Jaypaw discovers more of his powers it becomes clear that he has an especially close connection with StarClan and the other heavenly planes. He is able to contact the spirit of Fallen Leaves during this book, which ultimuetly saves his life and that of Breezepaw, Heatherpaw, Sedgekit, Swallowkit, Thistlekit and his siblings.
