If you have a friend who talks like that, maybe they need another hobby. However, if you're brave enough to enter the world of fanfic terminology, this guide should help you out.

Avatar: Much like a Mary-Sue, a avatar is basically a character that the author creates to be a version of themselves within the fandom. An example of this in Warriors fan-ficton would be a depiction of you as a cat; avatars are often looked down for and stories center around them.

Beta (Reader): A beta reader is someone who reviews the story before it's revealed to the public. A beta reader helps the author to improve their fan-fiction before it's open for critique.

Warning: A tag in a fanfic's header to warn off something that may upset/offend them. e.g Slash. character death, squick

Squick: Something that may upset or disturb readers. e.g: a graphic description of cannibalism within the Clans.

Canon: Information and events that happen in canon without controversy. For example, Fireheart x Sandstorm is canon because the shipping as been directly expressed within the series.

GAFF: God awful fanfic. A very bad fanfic that is painful to read.

Fanon: Information or events that are not strictly canon, but generally excepted by fans. e.g. Goldenflower is Ravenpaw's mum

Canon Rape: Refers to a story in which the author has destroyed the canon story so much that the fanfiction becomes bad to read.

Challenge: When someone casts a "challenge" they basically challenge another author to create a fanfic based on some type of criteria. Example: "Write a SashaxTiger fic!"

Challenge fic: A fic which results from a challenge.

Crossover: A fanfiction which crosses over between too fandoms and combines the characters, ideas, events, places etc.

Original Flavor: A fanfic meant to resemble the style in which the original is written.

Out Of Character [OOC]: Characters which are not depicted the way they are in canon. Usually seen as a weakness in a fic.

Continuation: A fanfic which continues the series from a point where it left off. e.g. A fic about what happens after The Darkest Hour before Midnight's events are released.

One True Pairing [OTP]

Fluff: A fanfiction which is considered light and cute and happy.

Flangst: A combination of fluff and angst.

Angst: A fanfic which puts the characters or leader through emotional or physical trauma.

Angstfic: A fanfic which really centers around angst, often in the form of a vignette.

Antific: A story in which the author kills or maims a character they dislike

Basherfic: A story in which the author humiliates, tortures, killing or creating a villain of a character they dislike who was not portrayed as such in canon.

Babyfic: Fanfic while the characters adopt or raise a child.

Badfic: A fic made for the purpose of amusing or warning fanfic writers of annoying errors and exaggerating them.

Deathfic: A fanfiction centering around the death of the character. Example: Crowfeather struggling over the death of Feathertail.

Revengefic: A fic about the characters getting revenge on the author for treating them badly within the series. e.g. A fanfic about Hawkfrost kidnapping Vicky for killing him. =O

Resfic: "Resurrection fic" in which a canon dead character is resurrected for a single fic.

Sillyfic: A humorous and ridiculous fic meant to amuse readers.

Crackfic: A fanfic that leads readers to wonder if they were on crack when they wrote it

Darkfic: An often depressing and intense story depicting a lot of death/torture/pain/trauma on a character.

Shockfic: Similar to Darkfic, made for the purpose of shocking the reader.

Denialfic: A fanfic which deliberlty avoids a [often tragic] event in the canon storyline. e.g A fic after Moonrise when Feathertail is still alive.

Songfic: A fanfiction based on a song, which often includes the lyrics split up throughout the sections.

Mirrorfic: A fic which replays the canon event in a book from the point of view that is not belonging to the original character. e.g Firepaw's apprentice ceremony from the point of view of Whitestorm

Kill ______ Fic: A fic which centers around killing a hated character.

Drabble: Either a very short fanfic, or more commonly a fanfiction of exactly 100 words, up to 15 additional words allowed for title.

Half Drabble: A fanfic of exactly 50 words, up to 15 additional words allowed for title.

Double Drabble: A fanfic of exactly 200 words, up to 15 additional words allowed for title.

Breaking the fourth wall: A fanfic in which a character, "breaks the forth wall" and is aware of the fandom/books in which they exist.

Slash: malexmale pairing. e.g. Ravenpaw x Barley

Slashy: An adjective to describe slash-like tones in a fic.

Shounen ai: Synonym for Slash. Milder then yaoi, and generally describes Warriors fanfic better.

Femslash: femalexfemale pairing e.g Mistyfoot x Silverstream

Slasher: A fan who likes to ship male characters with male characters or female characters with female characters.

Mpreg: A fic in which a make character gets pregnant by some means.

Fractions: Divisions among fans for a certain pairing or character. e.g: A division of fans who love AshxSquirrel

Fanfic: Short for fan-fiction.

Fanficcer: Someone who writes fanfics.

Flame: A rude an hurtful comment (often e-mail or PM) sent to members to intentionally upset the owner of a certain opinion/fanfic.

Flamewar: An immature exchange of flames.

Mary-Sue: An original female character which is often exaggerated, perfect, and which the story revolves around.

Gary-Stu: An original male character which is often exaggerated, perfect and which the story revolves around. Also called Marty-sam, counterpart to Mary-Sue's.

Pairing: A romance between too characters, e.g. SilverstreamxGraystripe

Shipping: Synonym for pairing.

Shipper: Someone who ships together cats and is a fan of pairings.

Nonshipper: Someone who opposes a pairing and tends to deny "romance" within the shipping.

Conventional Couple: A canon pairing

Mook: The fanfic that makes you go "awwwww!!" over two characters with a love interest.

Rarepair: A pairing that is very rare in fanfic circles, or completely nonsensical. e.g.: LongtailxSilverstream

Original Character [OC]: A character created by a fanfic author.

Woobie: A character who is constantly afflicted by tragedy in a series which makes female fans love him. e.g. Crowfeather is a woobie

Spoiler: Something that spoils or tells what happens in one of the books. e.g. Firestar becomes leader is a "A Dangerous Path" spoiler.

Bunny (plotbunny): An idea for a fanfic that sticks in an author's head until they write it.

Round Robin: A fic in which several authors take turn writing a part.

Real-People fic: A fanfic that involves the creators of the fandom. e.g a fanfic with Erin Hunter directly involved [Vicky, Cherith or Kate]

Vignette: A self-contained short fanfic which centers around the thoughts, feelings and reflections of a character. Rarely involves dialogue, and has the character reflecting on there own thoughts.
