Treating The No-Name Disease
In Rising Storm (original series Book 4), when Whitethroat and Littlecloud come from ShadowClan hoping to be healed of the dreaded no-name disease, Yellowfang and Bluestar send them away, not wanting to plague ThunderClan. Young Cinderpaw, however, helps them. Fireheart discovers this, and Cinderpaw pleads him not to tell, that the ShadowClan warriors are almost healed, that she found the right mix of herbs. The book never says which herbs these are, leaving some of us fans wondering. What cured ShadowClan?
My research on the herbs tells me this- there are many possible combinations, none of which can be truly proved. If greencough is a lethal disease, just like the no-name disease, and catnip cures greencough, why shouldn't catnip be a component in Cinderpaw's cure? If the no-name disease includes a bellyache, then the three possible cures for this part are watermint, chervil root, and juniper berries. Although watermint is best for bellyache, juniper berries would probably be a better bet, seeing as they also help a cat breathe is they are having trouble doing so, and the berries triple as a cough medicine (tansy is another cough medicine).
Fever is a large component of the fatal disease, and feverfew and borage leaves are remedies for fevers. If chills are also a part of the disease, lavender should do the trick. Now, it is unlikely, but if the no-name disease happens to include infection, either marigold, wild garlic, comfrey root, or honey would be a pick. We can rule out marigold and wild garlic right away, because those are not consumed orally, and comfrey root is possibly the same. Honey seems a better choice, because honey is edible, and sticky, making it not a very good choice for sticking on cuts, seeing as no cat wants sticky goo in their fur.
Extracting from this information, a likely combination of herbs to cure, or at least treat the no-name disease would be a mix of catnip, juniper berries, feverfew, lavender, and honey.
