Warriors: Firestar’s Quest

A Spoiler Free Review by Nova

Firestar’s Quest, as many of you may already know is a “filler” book that takes place between the Original Warriors and The New Prophecy series. It is in this book that you learn about what happens to characters who either appear, or disappear in the New Prophecy. I was one of the lucky few who got Firestar’s Quest from First Look. This is a spoiler-free review with comments from members of the Warriors Wish Forums.

Plot: 10/10
Firestar’s Quest had a plot that was well thought and ingenious. It puts readers on the edge of their seat and makes them wonder about how much StarClan is hiding from the characters.

Readability: 9/10
I felt that the detail that is usually used throughout the book, failed to appear during crucial parts of the plot. It felt as if the characters only had one or two senses instead of all five. Body language was another thing that was used, but lacked in certain parts of the novel. This makes the novel suitable for younger people and Warriors fans, but not as much advanced readers and people new to the series. Other than that, the novel flowed easily and was a great read.

Mechanics: N/A
Since the books from the First Look program are unedited copies, I can not report on the mechanics. I just hope they catch all the mistakes.

Originality: 9/10
The plot was original and the characters were brand new, not reflections of those previously seen in the series. The author used foreshadowing in a way that wasn’t used beforehand and many other literary devices.

Characters: 9/10
Although the characters are brand new, some of them aren’t described very well. Certain characters’ personalities are not made well known, or characters that seem “determined”, or “strong-willed”, eventually give in when times get tough.

Description: 9/10
Even though there were parts that did not have enough detail, the rest of the novel was written like the others, with plenty detail and vivid imagery.

Continuity: N/A
Since the books from the First Look program are unedited copies, I can not report on the continuity. I just hope they catch all the mistakes.

Overall: A 92%
Firestar’s Quest was the first “filler” type of novel we have seen from the author, but I think they did a nice job. It is a little expensive, a couple more dollars more than the other paperback books, but it is definitely worth it!
