Yellowfang x Fireheart by Jaybird

Now, as we all know, Yellowfang was the previous medicine cat before Cinderpelt. Yellowfang, the dusky gray cat with the barbed tongue, used to be a rogue, until Firepaw found her in Into The Wild. She and him fought, and ended up getting caught by a ThunderClan patrol. As punishment for feeding Yellowfang a ThunderClan rabbit, Firepaw was forced to care for her, things such as fetching her fresh-kill, bringing her new bedding, and even clearing away her dirt. Wouldn’t want that now would you? Anyways, nearing the end of the book, Firepaw became good friends with the gristly old she-cat. Yellowfang became the new ThunderClan medicine cat after Spottedleaf had been murdered by Clawface, and Firepaw earned his warrior name as Fireheart.

You’re probably wondering, so, what is the deal with telling us the story again? Well, through the books, Fireheart developed feelings for Yellowfang. They ended up loving each other, but not in the way you would expect. Yellowfang was more of the “motherly” type to Fireheart, unlike the way that Firestar loves Sandstorm or how Firepaw fell in love with Spottedleaf. Yellowfang wished that Firestar had been her son, instead of nasty old Brokentail.

"'You're a brave warrior, Fireheart. I could not be prouder of if you were my own son. And StarClan knows how many times I've wished that you were, instead of' -she drew a shallow, grating breath, and Fireheart knew every word stuck thorn-sharp in her throat- 'Brokentail.'" -Page 280, Rising Storm

As Fireheart lay with her, Yellowfang dying in her den from the effects of the fire, we learned how much Yellowfang loved him. She’d wished he’d been her son, and though he wasn’t, many could have said Fireheart was her ward, or her adopted son. But, did Firestar feel for her? That could be answered as well, from these quotes:

"This time, even knowing the pain he would have to bear, Fireheart closed his eyes and drank in the life hungrily, wanting all of Yellowfang's spirit, her courage and her loyalty to the Clan that was not hers by birth. He received it like a hide of light surging through him: her humor, her sharp tongue, her warmheartedness, and her sense of honor. He felt closer to her than ever before." Page 52, The Darkest Hour

"The strongest memory yet flooded over him, of Spottedleaf and Yellowfang, who had been ThunderClan medicine cats before Cinderpelt. Fireheart had loved them both, and grief swept over him again to mingle with his grief for his leader." -Page 9 of the Darkest Hour

That proved that Firestar had loved Yellowfang, and vice versa. It was more along the lines of a mother-son relationship though, instead of the ones like Graystripe with Silverstream, or Firestar with Sandstorm. These two cats are one of the many other shippings out there in the wild world of warriors. There are many more of them out there, and more are sure to come as the next series, The Power of Three, comes to your hometown.
