BlueTiger Upper by Blizz BlueTiger remains one of my favorite pairings. Can spell ANGST? BlueTiger tells an automatic story of love and betrayal, and is certainly multi-leveled. Shallow minded shippers might say, "Hold on, Tigerstar tries to kill Bluestar! How could they be in love?" Well, how indeed. Tigerclaw, as we know, was completely obsessed with becoming leader. If love mattered to him over the way he negatively affected the lives of Redtail, Ravenpaw, Cinderpaw, Runningwind, Fireheart, Graypool and everyone else in the forest, it still wouldn't stop him for going on with his goal. On the contrary, one logical view on BlueTiger would be that of an integration into his plans for takeover. Gaining Bluestar's full trust, and her having a [major] softspot for him would certainly take a positive turn for his schemes. Before the betrayal, Bluestar trusts Tigerclaw fully, and depends on him for his militarily strength and cunning. She doesn't even consider that her would turn on her, and that the word of Firestar is truth. BlueTiger, though far from canon, has more support after book 3, when she is literally shattered by his betrayal. We know that Bluestar is neither naive or stupid, so why is she so shocked and devastated by Tigerclaw's act of disloyalty? The obvious conclusion, following this theme, is that she loved him and she assumed it was mutual. The bitter rejection and tragedy is a great set-up for fan-fiction, and will remain a favorite non-canon pairing for many fans.
