Mishaps and Mistakes of the Forest by Jaybird

As we all know, Cherith, Kate, and Vicky are all human. They make mistakes. But sometimes, these things tend to happen more as you read throughout the Warriors Saga. From Into the Wild to Sunset, there have been many mishaps in the stories. They are not just grammar errors, there have been just plain mistakes. Take this for example:

“ ‘He was coming up the ravine by himself. I knew he should have had Brackenfur with him, and I…I wondered where he was going. I followed him—I remembered the time he took Bramblepaw and Tawnypaw out of the camp, and I thought I might have an adventure like that, too.’” Pages 111-112 of The Darkest Hour

Now you’re probably wondering, what was wrong in that quote? It seemed perfectly fine. Well, there was a problem in it. How could Sorrelkit know that Darkstripe had to be watched? Firestar had ordered Brackenfur to only tell Mousefur and Frostfur that they were supposed to help spy on Darkstripe. How had it drifted all the way to a kit in the nursery? She might have noticed Brackenfur trailing along Darkstripe more than usual, but she didn’t know he had to be with him. Here is another quote that seems to just be odd:

We need your strength, Tigerstar, Firestar whispered. Just as we need every cat who can fight, to drive BloodClan out of the forest. Page 237 of The Darkest Hour

What’s wrong with that, you ask? Well, this is more of a grammatical error more than an odd mishap, but it is still a mistake. It was written in italics, so automatically it should have been a thought. But instead, it said Firestar whispered instead of thought. It he had whispered, it wouldn’t have been written in italics and it would have had quotation marks. There are more grammatical errors mentioned throughout the entire series, and here are some of them:

“That must be Blackfoot,” mewed Grewpaw. “ShadowClan’s new deputy.” Page 141 of Into the Wild

In that quote, Graypaw was called “Grewpaw” instead of Graypaw.

His eyes were gleaming. Firestar guessed Ravenpaw was excited by the prospect of adventure. How different he was now from the nervous apprentice he had once been, bullied by his fierce mentor, Tigerpaw! Page 157 of The Darkest Hour

In that quote, Tigerstar was referred to as “Tigerpaw” instead of Tigerstar.

“Who’s that?” Leafpaw asked, peering down. “Gorsetail of WindClan,” came the reply. Page 30 of Dawn

There is one thing that is wrong in that quote, but it causes two different mistakes. The first mistake is that in the Dawn Allegiances, there is no Gorsetail whatsoever. The second mistake is that there is no cat that could have been made a warrior so quickly, they’d most likely be an apprentice in the books, like Crowpaw and Squirellpaw. Many think that Gorsetail had actually been Gorsepaw, the apprentice that had died in The Darkest Hour; that Gorsepaw had returned as Gorsepaw. That was a major mistake, for Gorsepaw was supposed to have been killed by Tigerstar.

There have been many other mistakes, such as disappearing cats like Ashfur of ShadowClan, who’d appeared in Into the Wild, cats that disappear then reappear like Reedpaw who’d been injured in the river and Leafpaw saved him, disappeared, then returned in Sunset as Reedwhisker, and cats who appear in the books but not in the Allegiances, like Roseclaw who’d supposedly been a ThunderClan elder then killed by Blackfoot in Into the Wild. Though there are many mishaps and mistakes in the saga, the story is what matters and it so far has been a great saga. So keep watch for The Sight, the next book in the saga, and forget the mistakes, but just keep reading.
