The river is the central stream whose tributaries run through all four territories. Here the river is widest, at the center of RiverClan's claim, and it creates the border between ThunderClan and RiverClan, though it is not impenetrable by way of the stepping stones, and ice in leaf-bare. The River is the clan's greatest resource, and it offers both protection and prey, making RiverClan having the reputation of the well-fed of the forest. The river runs with many fish in a good green-leaf season, but it's constantly changing.

Sometimes in drought it's reduced to a small stream, while in rainy season it can swell and become dangerous for RiverClan. The pebbly banks of the shore reveal shiny coloured stones and shells that the clanners collect to decorate their dens, and from the shore the ground slopes upward, where willow trees hang down and hawthorn, holly and thick gorse make the ground cover.
