We meet Graystripe again, locked in a nightmare in which he revisits the time when he meets his leader, Firestar, as a kittypet. He is suddenly separated from Firestar in a fire, and realizes that he is all alone... Waking from the dream, we discover that Graystripe is alone. Trapped alone, in twolegplace. The frames of the story change as Graystripe describes the way his life has changed as he adapts to kittypet life. It appears not as bad as he once thought, or is it? He escapes to the garden, but realizes a frightening truth -- he does not know the way home, nor does he understand the barrage of new and impossible things outside of his new home in Twolegplace.
