This chapter recaps the last Graystripe scene from Dawn, in which he helps the ThunderClan cats captured by the twolegs to escape, at the cost of his own freedom. Graystripe introduces himself nobly, and then, with the help of his clanmates, he attempts to free the ThunderClanners from the truck. But the truck is starting, and he refuses to leave Brightheart. Instead, he uses his last seconds to free her, before the truck lurches forward and the door slams shut. Graystripe is left clinging to the barred window that separates him from his Clan as the truck drives away.
