As the camp prepares for a threat from ShadowClan, Firepaw tends to his task of caring for Yellowfang. As he learns more about the she-cat, he is surprised by how quickly her moods change. Yellowfang mentions that she has a bad history with kits. Firepaw spends the next two days visiting Spottedleaf for herbs and bringing Yellowfang food. Old Halftail finally tells him to go hunting, so he joins Graypaw and Ravenpaw and the three have a very successful afternoon hunt. Returning to camp, they settle down to eat, and Graypaw volunteers to help Firepaw by taking Yellowfang her supper. Unfortunately, Tigerclaw catches him. Graypaw mentions that Tigerclaw has been in a bad mood since Lionheart was made deputy.
