Firepaw and Graypaw begin training with Lionheart and Tigerclaw while Dustpaw and Sandpaw are sent hunting. They patrol the borders. After training they return to camp to eat, and are jealous of Sandpaw and Dustpaw, who will be attending a gathering. The next day they do more training, and this time Ravenpaw joins them. Tigerclaw is in a particularly bad mood and takes it out on his apprentice. After learning some stalking techniques they hunt, and Firepaw catches his first mouse.
