Firepaw returns from training and Graypaw informs him that Ravenpaw has not returned from his task yet. Ravenpaw does return, with prey caught from ShadowClan territory. Firepaw is shocked, but Ravenpaw tells him to be quiet, he survived after all. Later on Ravenpaw tells Firepaw what really happened at the battle of Redtail's death: Redtail killed Oakheart, and then Tigerclaw killed Redtail, hoping to be named deputy. Firepaw is horrified, but he knows that he can not trouble Bluestar with his new information now - he will have to help Ravenpaw himself. Bluestar tells Firepaw another secret; that she has lost of seventh life, not her fifth. Suddenly Frostfur cries out for help - her two kits have been stolen from the nursery! Further investigation reveals that Spottedleaf is dead, and Yellowfang has disappeared.
