When night falls Bluestar commands that Ravenpaw and Graypaw guard the entrance to the mothermouth tunnel while Firepaw, Tigerclaw and herself descend to the moonstone. Tigerclaw turns in fear within the darkness and returns to the surface, leaving Bluestar and Firepaw alone. As the moon rises Bluestar enters sleep, and a hole in the roof of the tunnel allows the moonlight to set the large chunk of quartz (the moonstone) ablaze. After several moments Bluestar wakes up - Her dream has told her to return to camp immediately.
