Firepaw, Graypaw and Ravenpaw attend their first gathering. They gossip and exchange stories until the meeting begins - but WindClan has not yet arrived. Ravenpaw is a particularly eager storyteller, but Firepaw is confused when his story of the battle at sunningrocks contradicts Tigerclaws'. In Ravenpaw's version Redtail killed Oakheart, and then went on to help Tigerclaw. Ravenpaw does not get a chance to finish, because Brokenstar, leader of ShadowClan, demands to speak even though WindClan is not in attendance. He has shocking demands - that each Clan should give up some of their hunting rights, or be driven out by ShadowClan as WindClan has been. The Clans are outraged, but Crookedstar agrees to give part of the river. Brokenstar also warns of a former dangerous ShadowClanner and claims that until she is captured and killed no kits will be safe. ThunderClan cats think instantly of Yellowfang, and Firepaw finds himself doubting that she could be dangerous. Brokenstar and ShadowClan leave.
