The gathering approaches slowly, but Fireheart wonders if he will be allowed to attend. Graystripe insists on ignoring him and neglecting his own apprentice, so Fireheart divides his time between Cloudkit, Cinderpaw and Brackenpaw. He visits Cinderpaw and comforts her -- the she-cat knows that she will never be a warrior now. He receives permission to go to the gathering after reminding Bluestar how he brought back WindClan. They will leave soon, but there is still some time, so he visits Cloudkit (who now has a fever) and then eats some fresh kill. He puts up with taunting from Longtail and Dustpaw, but is surprised when Sandpaw comes to groom him. They leave for the gathering.
