The ThunderClan patrol arrives at fourtrees, and all seems to be well, though WindClan have not yet returned. Fireheart and Graystripe greet Wetfoot and his apprentice Oakpaw, and Blackclaw, a RiverClan warrior, points out RiverClan's new deputy, Leopardfur. As the gathering begins, Nightpelt aggressively states that he will be known as Nightstar when he visits the moonstone, and that he has become leader of ShadowClan. He and Crookedstar have a disagreement about hunting rights, but Bluestar settles them and demands that WindClan be brought back into the forest. Both cats are reluctant, and are obviously not pleased, but Bluestar reminds Nightpelt of the debt he owes ThunderClan, and with the two Clan's against him, Crookedstar is forced to agree. Fireheart worries about an alliance between RiverClan and ShadowClan.
