Fireheart reports on the assessment with Tigerclaw and Bluestar commends him on taking over Brackenpaw's training while Graystripe is ill. After the report he goes and eats with Graystripe, who has just returned to camp. When questioned on his whereabouts Graystripe becomes defensive, but Fireheart finds his own answer -- a catkin, from Graystripe's pelt -- which has to be from the willow tree, which only grows beside the river on the border with RiverClan. The next day Runningwind helps Fireheart train the apprentices, but Fireheart fakes a bellyache in order to follow Graystripe, who he is sure will sneak out of camp again. The answer leads to RiverClan -- and Silverstream, the RiverClan she-cat who rescued him.
