Jaypaw travels to the Moonpool with the other medicine cats. Kestrelpaw and Willowpaw don't walk with him, but Jaypaw does not mind, instead he hones his skills to read feelings in the older cats minds as they discuss Clan matters. The moonpool has been flooded as the ice water has melted, but they manage to find a place to settle down.

This time Jaypaw enters the dream of Willowpaw, hoping to find something out for Hollypaw. In the dream, Mudfur warns Willowpaw that RiverClan must leave their camp. But the dream is interrupted by Yellowfang who warns him again that he should not trespass in dreams that are not his own.

Heading back to camp, Leafpool too argues with Jaypaw. Jaypaw resolves that Leafpool should just leave him out of her world of secrets, because there is already enough darkness in his own. When they return to camp Leafpool speaks with Firestar about the trouble in RiverClan, but Firestar has problems of his own. He is tired of helping the other Clans in trouble, and he will not do anything about the dream. Jaypaw leaves, ready for sleep, and tells Hollypaw that something is wrong in RiverClan, before heading to his den.
