Hi everyone!
Firestar's Quest comes out this month, hooray! We get excited about every new title, but this one is
particularly important because it is a departure from the ongoing
series, back to the time when Firestar was the new leader of
ThunderClan and all four Clans still lived in the forest by
Twolegplace. We have missed the old hunting grounds almost as much
as the cats, and it was such a treat to go back and rediscover
places like Sunningrocks, the ravine, and the river. Our
characters have come so far since the first series, and Firestar
is all grown up now, with wisdom and responsibility and even
grandkits! But as soon as we started working on the story for
Quest, the moons fell away and it was easy to recall how he
had been at the start of his leadership, when he was still sorting
out his relationship with Sandstorm, and working hard to earn the
trust and respect of his Clanmates.
As always, I’m
being very careful not to give away any
details of the story, but I can’t wait for you all to read it! A whole year passed between the first
and second series, and by the time we began The New Prophecy,
Firestar and Sandstorm were a fully-established couple and
Firestar’s leadership of ThunderClan seemed set in stone. It was
great to have the chance to go back and explore some of the
questions that had been left unanswered. For example, I always
suspected Sandstorm would have had something to say about
Firestar’s strong friendship with Spottedleaf —did she feel second
best? Would Firestar confess how he really felt about the medicine
cat? And I can’t imagine Spottedleaf keeping quiet when Firestar
chose a mate, can you?
If you received the last AuthorTracker, you might remember that I
talked about each Warriors series being like a jigsaw puzzle, with pieces
from each book fitting together to make an over-arching story.
Well, Firestar's Quest is going to provide a few
essential pieces for Power of Three, so read closely! I
developed the two storylines, for Quest and all six books
of Power of Three, together so that questions in one would
be answered in the other (but it doesn’t matter if you haven’t
read as far as the third series yet).
But Firestar's Quest isn’t just a book for tying up
loose ends left over from the first series, or giving hints about
Power of Three. It’s a story all on its own, about Firestar
making a terrible and far-reaching discovery, and realizing that he
has been betrayed not just by cats whom he loved and trusted, but
by StarClan themselves…
Read on, and enjoy!
Very best wishes,
Erin
