Hi everyone,
If this letter seems a little late this month, it’s because I’ve
been knee-deep in all things ThunderClan, working on the storyline
for Power of Three Book Two. I’m so excited about this
series but I’ve made a promise to myself that I won’t talk about it
(too much) until after you’ve had a chance to read
The New Prophecy Book Six: Sunset.
You only have to wait until Dec. 26th when it goes on sale!
When I wrote the last book of the first series,
The Darkest Hour, I had no
idea that there would be more books about the Clans, so I made sure
that every element of the story was neatly finished off. Scourge and
Tigerstar were dead; ShadowClan had a new leader, Blackstar, who was
ambitious and untrustworthy like most ShadowClan leaders but at
least wasn’t threatening any trouble right away; Firestar and
Sandstorm had finally gotten over all the obstacles and
misunderstandings in their relationship and looked set to have a
great future; and Firestar’s longest, most reliable and most beloved
friend Graystripe had become ThunderClan’s deputy. What more
could happen to these cats? I thought.
As you know, the answer to that was, plenty more! It wasn’t
difficult to come up with ideas to fill all six books of The
New Prophecy, although I was sad when I realized that I
might have said goodbye to the forest forever. Writing
Firestar’s Quest was a treat because I was able to go back
to the forest and run around the old familiar paths – like going
back home for a visit! I knew there would be a third series before I
reached the end of The New Prophecy and started having
ideas before I wrote the sixth book, which means that not all story
elements will be finished off in Sunset. You’ll have
to read very closely to look for clues about what might happen in
the next series! To help carry some of the storylines forward, there
is only a gap of six moons between
Sunset and
Power of Three Book One: The Sight. There was a whole year
(twelve moons, or four seasons) between the first series and
The New Prophecy, but I’ve been able to fill some of that
gap with Firestar’s Quest!
I hope this has made you even more eager to read the sixth and final
installment of Brambleclaw, Squirrelflight and Leafpool’s adventures.
Please let me know what you think!
Until next month (when I’ll be in a holiday mood!)
Very best wishes,
Erin
