Hi everyone!
The bestseller lists for the week of Twilight’s release
haven’t been published yet so I can’t tell you if we beat the
boy-wizard again, but I know it’s been selling brilliantly online and at bookstores so thank you! If you’ve already read
it, congratulations and I hope you weren’t too heartbroken when we
said goodbye to a major, much-loved character at the end. I know I
have a reputation for killing off cats right, left and center but I
promise I found this the hardest death-scene to write and regretted
my decision right up to the moment I sent off the manuscript. Poor,
poor . . .
And if you haven’t read
Twilight yet, I hope this has pricked
your appetite!
A lot of readers ask me if the forest where the cats live is real.
Well, the answer is yes. It’s loosely based on the New Forest, which
is a large partly-wooded area of moorland in the county of Hampshire
in England, UK. If you look on a map of southern England it should
be fairly easy to find. It’s a very popular spot with tourists
because it’s close to the sea and there are some lovely walks and
cycle rides through the forest. There is a fast, busy highway
running through (the Thunderpath) and several small, pretty towns
where Twolegs live with their kittypets. The real New Forest is
famous for its breed of wild ponies, as well as beautiful deer and
lots of English birds such as woodpigeons and hawks. I don’t think
there are any communities of feral cats living there, but I could be
wrong.
The lake and surrounding areas are entirely made up, I’m afraid. I
knew what I wanted to put in the new territories, so I drew a map
before I started the storylines. This was helpful because I could
figure out exactly where the cats had to go to reach different
places. I’m hopeless at art but luckily the artist responsible for
the beautiful maps in the Warriors books was able to turn my scrappy
sketches into gorgeous, detailed drawings.
I know lots of you are desperate to read the sixth and final book in
The New Prophecy series but I’m afraid you’ll have to hang on until
January next year. I promise it’s worth the wait! And don’t forget
to keep an eye on the
official Warriors website for the latest news on all things ThunderClan!
Very best wishes,
Erin
